This resource, developed by the British Pharmacological Society, will help you understand why choosing an appropriate sample size is an essential part of good experimental design. It is aimed at anyone who needs to analyse literature and/or data generated from studies involving research animals. After taking this module you will be able to:
- Understand why it is important to select an appropriate sample size for your confirmatory experiments
- Understand what influences sample size
- Explain what is meant by Statistical Power and appreciate the implications of running over- and under-powered experiments
- Be able to calculate sample sizes for various effect sizes
- Identify situations where there are multiple sources of variability and why it is important to investigate the various levels of replication in an experimental design
The maximum estimated time needed to complete it is 2 hours.
